Wilde Horses en: Behind the Zines - Self-Publishing Culture, Published by Gestalten
Behind the Zines introduces a cutting-edge selection of international zines and examines their role as a catalyst in the evolution of media and graphic design today. The book presents the broad range of existing zines that combine thought-provoking content with compelling design: from project-oriented portfolios and (pseudo) scientific treatises to playrooms where creatives can run riot and publications in which the printing process significantly influences aesthetics. It not only describes the key factors that distinguish various zines, but—through interviews with people involved in their production and distribution—also sheds light on various strategies for this evolving media form.

Wilde Horses en ¨Thanks for Sharing (leipzig, Alemania)
What is an art zine? How does it differ from an editorial art magazine or a blog? And why do more and more artists internationally seem to be interested in this particular publishing format?
For the opening weekend of THANKS FOR SHARING! they have invited artists, collectors, distributors and curators from all over Germany and Switzerland to discuss this rise of interest in zines, their popularity among contemporary artists, the revival of DIY-culture with its appealingly easy implementation of ideas and potentials for stylistic experimentation.
More than 300 issues from 24 different countries have been submitted in response to the open call. They will be shown in the D21 galleries.
